CANEUS 2006 Conference on Micro-Nano Technologies for Aerospace Applications From Concepts to Systems

Toulouse, France
Aug. 27 - Sep. 1, 2006

The CANEUS 2006 International Conference: Transitioning Micro and Nano Technologies to Systems rapidly and cost-effectively The CANEUS 2006 Conference is unlike any other in that it focuses specifically on the creation of continuous, smoothly functioning technology development “pipelines” for transitioning emerging Micro and Nano Technology (MNT) concepts to systemlevel applications. CANEUS 2006 sets its sights on overcoming the Darwinian odds facing the successful transition of MNT concepts, especially through the mid-maturity “Valley of Death” that is responsible for the premature demise of a majority of these laboratory-proven technologies. CANEUS 2006 has succeeded in uniting all the primary stakeholders for MNT development, the inventors, system-developers, endusers, and funding communities under one roof. An impressive list of invited speakers and attendees includes world-renowned scientists, engineers, program managers, investors and policy-makers from the U.S., Canada, Europe, and Asia. Each CANEUS 2006 conference session addresses a particular key aspect of the MNT concepts-to-systems development process. An important feature of the CANEUS 2006 Conference is the two-day Project Workshops aimed at creating business plans for seven pre-selected MNT concepts.

The CANEUS 2006 Conference takes place from August 27 - September 1, 2006, in Toulouse, France. Jointly sponsored by CANEUS and Airbus Industries, the CANEUS 2006 Conference begins with a one-day Short Course program, followed by a comprehensive Technical Program consisting of three days of oral and poster presentations. The Technical Program consists of sessions designed to maximize each participant’s exposure to exciting developments in areas of emerging MNT concepts, MNT System Development, System reliability considerations, End-User needs and perspectives, Investment perspectives and development roadmaps, and Governmental policies affecting coordinated, international development of MNTbased systems for aerospace/defense applications.

The high point for the CANEUS 2006 Conference is the two-day Project Workshops sessions that immediately follow the Technical Program. The Project Workshops are highly interactive sessions allowing the participants the opportunity to shape the creation of “business plans” for seven MNT concepts in materials, devices, and systems that have been identified as promising candidates for system-level development. Ultimately, the CANEUS organization measures its success by the number of MNT concepts that it has successfully “shepherded” to system-level products.
